Terms & Conditions

This section describes the terms and conditions and operation of services by Highland Bike Tours or HBT:

Please take the time to read and understand the terms and conditions below before booking with us as they set out our rights and obligations. We also recommend that you also read all the details on the website relating to your trip before booking to ensure you understand the itinerary and style of travel you are undertaking, and by completing and submitting of a booking you accept these conditions.

You can reserve your place on one of our tours by completing the 'Contact Us' section, or by sending us an email ([email protected]) with your details, along with your preferred start time, and then paying before departure by debit or credit card. There will be no cash payments at the premises. A valid ID is also required prior to departure.

Please note that there are only a maximum of 4 slots for any given tour, so if you wish to make a booking for more than one person then please complete the online form on the website and we will respond asap as to availability on your preferred dates.

If you are part of a group, then by submitting a booking/reservation using the online form on our website, then the first named person on the booking is "the customer" and agrees on behalf of all persons named on that booking that:

1.   He/she has read these terms and has the authority and agrees to be bound by them.

2.   He/she is over 18 years old and when placing an order for services declares he/she and all members of the party are of the correct age, and are all confident in riding a traditional bike on a public road.

3.   He/she has notified all others named in the booking of these terms - regardless of how the final payment was made - and that all customers accept and agree to be bound by these terms.

For all bookings;
As a customer you agree to accept all our terms and conditions, and when we accept your booking we agree to perform our obligations as defined to you on our website or in any materials you receive from us. This Agreement is governed by, and shall be interpreted and enforced by, Scottish law.

If the individual customer making the booking is doing so for a group of two or more people, they will automatically be assigned "party leader" status and will be the primary contact person and responsible for all passengers and all information and matters related to the reservation .

You must be 18 years of age or older to book. Persons under the age of 18 are not allowed to travel alone, but can travel with a pre-booked parent or chosen guardian. The behaviour and conduct of any client under the age of 18 is the responsibility of supervising adults. We do not have a maximum age limit, but we need to remind you that cycling can be physically demanding.

'The customer' is responsible for providing correct contact information. Any service disruption due to us having incorrect contact details will be considered 'the customer's fault' and no compensation or refund will be available.

Acceptance of risk and responsibilities as a customer:

It is a fundamental booking condition when booking a trip that you accept that activities such as cycling involve elements of risk or inconvenience, and that you take personal responsibility for your own actions.

Customers must have their own adequate insurance to cover themselves and their personal belongings for all trips.

We are not responsible for any damage, death or injury caused by or by you as a result of your participation.

You must confirm that you are eligible to participate in this chosen activity (cycling), and that you have informed us of any medical conditions affecting your participation at the time of booking, or prior to any tour departure should your circumstances have changed after making any booking with us.

You participate at your own discretion and we advise that you wear available safety equipment at all times. The Hi-Vis vest provided before any bike ride should always be worn on the road. Since Covid restrictions and for hygiene reasons we do not provide helmets, so this is at your own discretion whether you bring along your own. There is no legal requirement to wear a helmet while cycling on British roads. We do have some helmets at the shop which you are free to borrow but it will be your own responsibility to keep clean.

If you have to cancel or abort a trip, although we will do our best to help you, you will be responsible for any additional costs incurred for travel arrangements made.

In general, we recommend you do have experience with riding a bike. If you are confident riding a traditional bike then you will be fine riding one of our E-Bikes. In fact, we will go as far as saying that you will thoroughly enjoy the ride!

Rules during any trip:

You must comply with the laws, customs and local regulations at all times. Guests on our tours are not allowed to leave any rubbish or waste in rural areas, and must use the appropriate bins within town or city limits.

While these trips are for a small group of people, there will be occasions where multiple couples who have never met before will travel together on the same trip, so the 'motto' on all our trips is 'please don't treat another person in a way you don't want to be treated yourself'.

Consuming alcohol ** is not allowed during the duration of a tour. We reserve the right to refuse all our services to anybody who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or who is acting abusively or threatening to our employees or other customers and guests.

**During any 'Distillery Tour' you will be given a 'Tasting Set' at the end (just like people who attend a distillery tour who have been driving a car), but consuming alcohol is not allowed until our bikes have been returned to our Perth hub, so keep this until after the tour where we can share a toast to a great bike experience!

Authority during every trip:

Our group tours are conducted by an HBT guide. The decision of this guide is final on all matters that may affect the safety or well-being of any person taking part in the trip. If you do not comply with a guide's decision or interfere with the well-being of the group, the guide may order you to leave the tour immediately, without any right to a refund. In such a circumstance, where a person is removed from the tour, we accept no responsibility for their transfer to the end point of the tour or for any expenses incurred. Any transport arranged for the relevant person is at our discretion.

Flexibility and changes in itinerary:

When booking you appreciate and acknowledge that the nature of this type of travel requires considerable flexibility and you must allow for alternatives in the unlikely event that something unexpected occurs during one of our tours.

The itinerary provided for each trip is representative of the types of activities being considered, but it is understood at time of booking that the schedules, and all amenities on the itinerary are subject to change without notice due to local conditions or events. We therefore also reserve the right to change an itinerary after departure due to weather, local conditions or events beyond our control (see bottom of this page for more detailed info).

Health & Medical conditions:

We will do our very best to accommodate any special requirements. If you or a member of your party has a medical condition or disability which could affect your participation in one of our tours then please provide us with full details before confirming your booking so that we can try to advise you on the suitability for that person.

In certain circumstances we may require you to provide a medical certificate certifying that you are fit to participate in the tour. If we use good reasoning and common sense, we will not confirm your booking if we are unable to properly meet the medical needs or condition of the individual(s) concerned.

In addition to any medical conditions, you must be fit enough to cover the distances outlined in your itinerary. If it is believed that a client is not sufficiently fit, healthy, well-rested or able to complete the tour, then HBT reserves the right to cancel your participation. Anybody under the influence of drugs or alcohol will not be permitted to take part in any of our tours.

Medical treatment:

It is a condition of your booking that in the unlikely event of an emergency we have your authority to arrange or call any necessary medical assistance on your behalf.

Customers must have their own adequate insurance to cover themselves and their personal belongings for all trips.

Any independent arrangements or actions you make during any bike ride that are not part of the tour are entirely at your own risk.
We also cannot accept any liability in the event of delays, or any resulting costs incurred by the customer, as a result of circumstances beyond our control. These circumstances may include, but are not limited to, the following examples:

  • Actions by the police, customs or other government officials that cause delay
  • Traffic accidents that cause delays
  • Severe weather conditions
  • Unforeseen problems caused by other guests
  • Force Majeure * (for example: war, natural disaster, pandemic, or nuclear disaster, etc.)
  • Social unrest
  • Industrial action

Additional Services:

Upon request, we are happy to provide customers with information about a range of other services that would be available in Perthshire, e.g. recommendations for restaurants, hotels or other outdoor activities. When a customer takes up the services of a third party, that company's terms and conditions apply.

Scottish law applies as all tours take place in and around Perth, Scotland.

How to book your Tour

There are no cash payments at the premises, so all tours must be booked in advance, or paid by debit or credit card (at the shop/hub) prior to the tour. All our tours starting in Pitlochry can now be booked online.

Please note that there are only a maximum of 4 places on any given tour.

It is also worth mentioning that if the ‘private tour’ option has been booked in advance then there are no other places or bikes available on that day. For more info about the ‘private tour’ (from 1 up to a maximum of 3 people for the same fee) please see our Tours section, or simply contact us by email or via the website.

To reserve your place on one of our tours that start in Perth, you can either send us an email to [email protected], or simply complete the Contact Us section. As there are only 4 slots on any of our tours we operate on a first-come first-served basis with all our bookings. Please also include the height of each person - We will then supply you with the correct frame size.
